Design challenges on the loom
with Melanie Olde and Monique van Nieuwland Weekend workshop at Textile Works: 7/8 August, 10.00am-4.00pm with additional time for discussion and preparing the loom. Cost: $100 using own loom or $120 includes hiring CSW loom for one month Participants: 12 maximum Join a weekend of experimental design challenges on the loom with other CSW weavers. This workshop caters for weavers of all levels, participants work at their own level and pace. Looms suitable: 4 or 8 shaft table looms, a rigid heddle loom is also possible. Use your own loom, or hire one from CSW. Inspired by the 'Designing Game' (created by Ann Sutton in the 80's) this workshop will guide participants through playful experimental design challenges. Be prepared for the unexpected, thinking outside the box and solving problems! The process will provide many learning opportunities and will result in weaving experiences working with unexpected combinations of materials, weaving techniques, colour and designs. Some yarns/thrums for experimentation are supplied by CSW. Participants are asked to bring weaving yarn/material to share with others. Please contact the facilitators if you have any questions. Program: - Saturday 30 July 11 am: participants gather via zoom to get instructions for creating a warp and dress the loom and further explain the workshop idea (if not able to join via zoom, facilitators will make contact in another way). - Thursday 5 August: assistance available for making the warp and dressing the loom - Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 August: workshop each day 10am - 4pm Please bring your own lunch. Morning and afternoon tea are provided. Participants bring: Loom with warp set up ready to weave Pen and pencils Notebook Ruler Graph paper Any type of weaving materials you can find, you are happy to share with others.
