Exciting news! Canberra Spinners and Weavers has been successful in applying for an ACT community grant to establish a seed and natural dyeing garden.

Our President, Necia Agnew attended a ceremony on Tuesday November 4, and received $8,200 for the project. The garden will be located in the fenced area at the side of the Canberra Spinners and Weavers rooms and the landscaping will begin the first week of December. Once the work has been completed there will be a call out for donations of seeds and plants suitable for natural dyeing and for volunteers to help maintain the garden.

The aim is to grow flax for weaving and plants for natural dyeing which can be used by members and to offer workshops. Rebecca Mayo from the ANU School of Art and Design was instrumental in organising the grant application to complement a garden established at the Australian National University and her help and enthusiasm was much appreciated as well as Maree Ohlin from CSW.

We hope to engage the wider Chifley hub community in the project as it progresses and perhaps utilise design students from ANU in experiments with the fibres we grow.
