We have the following activities and events to celebrate with our members and the community 60 years of Canberra Spinners and Weavers.

 

New Signage

In January beautiful etched timber signs were installed on the outside of the building, the fence and on the wall between the main room and the library. These help direct visitors to our rooms and fit in with our philosophy of using natural products.

Community Weaving Project

Using wool plyed by the late Solveig Baas -Becking a founding member of CSW the large loom at our rooms has been warped up for a rug project. Full instructions are provided for the project and members are encouraged to sign up to weave a section. Hopefully it will be finished for the celebratory exhibitions planned for later in the year. Necia Agnew is at the Thursday group each week to provide any assistance.

New Badges

Each member will be offered a metallic badge to replace the current paper ones. Members will be asked to select their choice of backing, pin or 

magnetic. To be organised after the Annual General Meeting in March.

 

Open Weekend August

An Open Weekend is planned for Friday 21 - Sunday 23 August. Activities include demonstrations and mini workshops and an exhibition/display focusing on the history of Canberra Spinners and Weavers. We are hoping to include some natural dyeing demonstrations using plants from our own garden which was established late in 2025 with an ACT Government Grant.

 

Video

A promotional video is currently in preparation to be used to promote our organisation to the wider community and to attract interest in our membership and activities. Filming has begun with stills from Greenhills in 2025, Lynne Johnsons retrospective exhibition in November and the Weaving Summer School. Further filming and interviews are planned throughout the year to provide a perspective on all our activities.

 

Tuggeranong Arts Centre Exhibition

We have been chosen to exhibit as part of the program for the Tuggeranong Arts Centre from 23 October - 21 November. The aim of the exhibition is to celebrate the work of CSW over the last 10 years. Members will be invited to submit up to 3 pieces for selection by the Arts Centre. Details to follow.

 

Design Canberra Open Studios

The theme for Design Canberra in 2026 is 'Dissent' and CSW has registered to participate in the Open Studios Weekend which will be over  the weekend November 6-8 with the exhibition open during group sessions during the following week. Details to follow.

 

Lunch

The community centre has been booked on Saturday November 21 for a lunch to celebrate the 60 years of CSW. We hope to be able to show the completed video. Details to follow on Try Booking.
